I personally don't think this even belongs in "Debates," but since it is about a politican, I figured better safe than sorry.
OK, as we all know, this SC Gov (Rep) admitted last week to having an affair with some woman in Argentina. And his wife kicked him out (good for her, BTW, given that he refused to stop seeing his mistress). And he may be in legal trouble (rather than merely ethical and marital trouble), if he used state funds for travel to meet up with his mistress.
Now, today, he's admitted to having--not affairs ("sexual intercourse," I suppose?)--but inappropriate "crossing of lines." Whatever that means. Is that making out with women not your wife? Third base? Non-physical "affairs of the heart"? Actually, I don't care what that means. I am not sure why he shared all of this with us.
But, what was appalling was that, when he described his affair with girl-from-Argentina, he called her his "soul mate" and referred to the matter as a genuine "love affair." And added that, despite this, he wants to rebuild his marriage.
OMWord. Please resign and go away. You are a horrible person. NOT for falling in love with another woman; not for having an affair with her (although these certainly aren't redeeming qualities). You are a horrible person for humiliating your wife this way. SHUT UP. No one cares that you found the love of your life outside your marriage. It excuses nothing about your behavior. What we care about is how you treat the people whose trust you are supposed to value most. If you treat your family's trust as disposable based on whether you happen to be in love with your wife that day, just think of what you could do to that of the mere voters, whose breasts and hearts you are not "crying out for." (His emails were sophomorically awful, BTW. Like what Hallmark would do if they made porn greeting cards.)
Pleas resign. Go camping with John Edward and Eliot Spitzer and see if you all can find something to talk about. Heck, make it a huge boys' night out: don't forget Larry Craig, David Vitter, Governor Greavy, Bill Clinton...
