I think so too. This is one of those awkward points. I think unions are here to protect employees and there is a definite place for them. I don't think the collective bargaining rights should be taken away. At the same time, the people of WI voted in this government...like it or not. I, personally, would feel badly going in to cast a vote where I knew that I was going to lose. At the same time, it seems ridiculous that one party has skipped town just to avoid losing. It's silly really. They should all be removed from office.

I support the right of teachers and other public employees to strike and protest .... doctors giving out sick notes? No.

Yeah, kind of an end-run around the needing a note from a doc to return to work/school thing, but some docs examine large groups of patients (ie, student athletes at school district physical events) and it isn't an issue. So long as they actually examined them and the note's wording said they were OK to return, I think they're in the clear with their licensing board.

Yeah, it could be sketchy. But so is attempting to strip a significant portion of taxpayers of their legal ability to belog to unions. Particularly after that group has already agreed to major concessions to help balance a budget that was put off-kilter by massive tax giveaways by the same governor trying to union bust.

None of it sits well with me.

I am totally against this bill, so I might be pretty biased, but I was under the assumption that they were doing it as a sign of support, and that nobody would be stupid enough to actually use them as real excuses. But, as diggitydot pointed out, if they actually examined them, more power to them.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

I hope they do something soon. The last I heard was that if we don't have a budget passed by early March, the lay offs will start, the estimates that were on the news last night were 5000-6000 state employees and an equal number of county employee jobs are also at risk. Goody.
