I am surprised that this hasn't happened much (20 years) sooner. I just heard that Gadhafi is planning to blow up his country's Oil fields.

He's a sick, sick man. The reports I heard two days ago were horrifying. They said that soldiers were roaming hospitals taking the names of the dead and killing anyone who survived with the doctors standing by helplessly. I also read that the U.S. was holding off speaking publicly about Libya until the ferry with 500 Americans got out of Tripoli because they were certain Gadhafi would take Americans hostages if he could to escalate this conflict internationally.
The reporter I heard interviewed the other day said they had interviewed Gadhafi 3 times and in the nicest way possible said the man was insane and was most likely on a life/death collision with these events. Is it wrong to say I hope so??Angie

When I was a teen my we would visit my grandmother weekly and take her grocery shopping. One week, Gadhafi was on her grocery list (spelled Kaddifi, but we figured it out). When we asked her WHY in the world Gadhafi was on her grocery list, Grandma said "Oh. I wanted to remember. I would never wish anyone dead, but I'd sure like to see him maimed."
I agree, of course. He's a sick, sick man -- I just hope he doesn't take too many people with him on his way to hell (or reincarnation as a dung beetle).Last edited by Shakti; 02-24-2011, 10:49 AM. Reason: added reincarnation option as I don't really believe in Hell.

A very dear friend of mine was on Charlie Rose, I believe yesterday or the day before, anyway here's the segment.
My friend's name is Khaled.

I hope she's not in Tripoli. I was heartened to read about the two fighter pilots that ditched the plane rather than bomb a "rebel" city. Still, the fact that he's sending fighter pilots out to bomb his own cities is crazy.
Big hugs to your husband's friend. Let's hope this ends soon.Angie

I had a very interesting conversation w/ some of the international studies professors last night (at The Friendly Spot, of course) and their take is that it's going to get worse before it gets better but ultimately, there are compelling reasons for other entities to want Q/G (as I will refer to him since no one can spell his name in English) gone. Oil being just one VERY compelling reason. The professors were also quite curious to see if it spreads to sub-Saharan Africa, as there are lots of despots there who need to go.
I also had heard grumblings about why Obama hadn't spoke out forcefully yesterday and then I heard his spokesman say that they were biding time until all of the Americans had been evacuated. Then, he blasted the Q-man.

On a side note, one of the neighbors does payroll software and one of his clients was an oil company from Houston who had one of the floating oil rigs- and a payroll of 1000. The rules were for every foreign national that was employed, the company had to agree to hire 3 Libyans... ETA: needless to say, the company is moving the oil rig, as I type.Last edited by DCJenn; 02-27-2011, 01:48 PM.
