Indian weddings are the best!!!! Don't wear a tight fitting dress though, you'll need room for your belly to stretch.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

I gave 10% for a little while when I attended regularly, but I'm Catholic and they never really pressure you to do anything. Now that I am not working I don't do that even if I attend because my DH is a different religion and I don't feel right giving the church his money. I will put 5. in the basket but that's it. I'm sure God understands when you just can't.

Oceanchild, your post made me laugh about the lawyers... I would also looove to go to an Indian wedding.

My room-mate from college is Jewish and her wedding was so, so fun. (of course they were married by the lesbian rabbi so it was already non-traditional in that sense!

We've got the while stiff-upper-lipped white protestant wedding thing all wrapped up. My wedding (at my parent's house) was conducted by an offiiciant from the Northern Virginia Ethical Society who disliked my husband (and he didn't like her at all, either.) The old-timers all know that the beginning of my wedding video starts out with, "if the groom would put down his beer, we could begin..." That alone makes me keep the silly thing.

The same room-mate and I used to go to Friday night seder because it's the perfect place for starving college students. Get some religion, get packed up with food from the old ladies...and then we's sleep at her parents and have bagel with whitefish salad on Saturday mornings. YUM.

        J.

We went to a Pakastani wedding for a friend of mine. It was awesome. Great food, high energy, amazing outifts...They sat in front of the room on a stage on thrones. Way cool.

I miss Seder feasts! My friends in Div school used to host them once a year. Such a great time of fellowship and delicious food.
Irish Catholic wedding = bomb diggity.
Ditto to the Indian wedding; although, I think my real desire is to be a part of a Bollywood dance company. Maybe in another life...?

There are lots of schools now doing Bollywood dance, and many put on productions. DH's cousin's best friend is one of the founding partners/owners of Dhoonya Dance in Washington DC and NYC. They've been on Dr. Oz, Tyra Banks, Royal Pains, the ABC Morning show ... a bunch of other stuff. http://www.dhoonyadance.com/ (Kajal is the one I know, although oddly enough, my SIL is also friends with Priya in NYC). You all could kill 2 birds w/one stone, learn Bollywood dance, make Indian friends, be invited to an Indian wedding.

What I really love is Punjabi music. I used to watch the music videos on youtube but didn't understand a word... DH would give me weird looks and ask what that was lol Ms Pooja and Mc Punjabi (I might have the spelling wrong) were my fave, there's a remix with Jay Z too.
