No way. Americans are far more prude than Germans. There are boobies all over German tv, even for a simple soap commercial. In one of dd's Where's Waldo type books that we have, there is a nude beach scene, where there are naked moms/dads/grandmas that is extremely graphic. There are naked people with pubic hair playing volleyball.

No way are Germans stodgy when it comes to their bodies or sex. You would never have the discussion of breast feeding in public in Germany. In fact, I've seen women stimulating their nipples in public.

It's not that Germans sexualize everything. It's more that sex is completely natural, and that our bodies serve a utilitiarian purpose (now THAT is German -- HA!)

Americans, in general, are far more puritanical about sexuality compared to Europeans.

Interesting. I would have guessed France, Italy, etc. first.

What about Eastern Europe? I didn't get that vibe from Poland at all (but I didn't from Germany either)

I know it's different in Germany ... Alison, I meant to respond to this earlier.

My mil used to actually make the bed for Thomas' brother and gf ... and put bottled water/OJ next to the bedside table. It weirded me out ... it felt creepy to me but it was normal to them.

The very FIRST time I met his family, we were sitting in the living room and dh's brother and gf came in, went upstairs and went at it. We could HEAR them and I was mortified. They came downstairs about 10 min. later and FIL made a comment about how short it had lasted. I nearly had a heart attack.

DH and I lived there for a few weeks when we were getting ready to move, and dh's brother actually walked into our bedroom about 2 min. after dh and I had been ... intimate ... with a "done yet?" and grabbed something.

Seriously....everyone has different boundaries...but those moms sound creepy.

The bottled water/OJ on the nightstand is cracking me up! I was probably 24 before I even heard my mother say the word "sex". We were on a family vacation one year and DH (BF at the time) came with us, we were probably 21/22 y.o., he and I went into another room to watch tv and my mother came by about 5 minutes later and told us we had to leave the door open! But then my grandmother came over shortly after and gave us a little grin and quietly shut the door. Love grandma

Oh I know. Quakers often get the credit for influencing the puritanical American culture, but it isn't accurate. 3 of the founding fathers were Quaker (IIRC) for example, which is hardly majority.

ETA: I'm guessing I am desperately trying to change the subject because I find the OP so incredibly disturbing. Not because I'm a prude (I was raised in a very forthcoming household...) but because children/teens look to their parents to establish appropriate behavioral boundaries. I've known European families living here who let their (late) teens do the deed in the home, but they weren't taking pictures and posting it for the public to see.
