  • Doctor Pay...

Not usually a debate with this group but you never know!

This article was in the Dallas newspaper a few days ago:
    http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/su...much-money.ece

This letter was well written by a doc as a rebuttal:
    http://www.meandmydoctor.com/2012/07...c=1&fwcl=1&fwl

Its nice to see someone write it out in terms everyone can understand and I'd love to post this on my fb page but I'm not sure I'm that gutsy.

DH posted this to his FB yesterday. All it did was get a bunch of "likes" from other doctor friends and commiseration from other underpaid folks (mostly liberal arts peeps and PhDs). Either he has a biased sampling of friends mostly from the medical field or no one was brave enough to take him on

I couldn't finish reading the original article because it was so off base. When I got to the line about janitors make more when working in a healthcare setting my only thought was that damn straight they should, they have to deal with some pretty icky stuff and have the risk of contracting an illness if they don't take precautions.

As for the office staff? If we screw up, then there is huge liability issues, a message doesn't get passed to the doc quickly enough, or if I screw up on paperwork... The whole system is broken and insurance companies are (in my opinion) the main reason why. If the rules for getting patients the care they need were consistent and understandable, then it would cost a whole lot less.

DH has already been named in two lawsuits, one from med. school and one from residency, and he wasn't even directly involved in the patient care. I wonder how many other professionals have to constantly worry about getting sued, and as an OB/GYN he can be sued years later.

And truth be told, the people I know making serious bank are execs with fat pensions or dentists, but no one seems to be up in arms about their pay.

Wow, that's a piece of crap. But it's the Dallas Morning News, generally accepted to be a piece of crap, so I'm not surprised. They go after Parkland and UTSW every few months about random stuff that doesn't even make any sense. They have a grudge. It's weird.

I'd disagree with this (except for the Dentist part...why didn't DH become one as originally planned??) it's allllll over the news lately

Me either! My blood was boiling and I wasn't halfway through, so I closed it! And what kills me is that I'm sure many people who don't know any doctors think the same...

I should clarify. I'm not talking about CEO's and VP's and such making 100's of millions of dollars. Of course thats in the news. I'm talking about MBA's making almost seven figures working for big companies, which is pretty common in my neck of the woods. Or the money managers who who my friends are married to making almost seven figures. It seem doctors are the only white collar professionals making six figures that get so much hate. When there are so many other groups of people making well into the six figures also.

And I tried hard to get DH and my brother to go into dentistry. Sigh.

If my DH had stayed with Chemical Engineering which is what his BS is in - we'd be SOOOOOOOO much farther along financially its not even funny!

Yeah, the DMN is really terrible. I didn't read it, even when I lived in the Big D.

We've been warned. The proverbial target sites have been set on Doctors' salaries as an area for costs savings.

If you all are not paying attention, it's time to wake up. Student loan debt is increasing while physician reimbursement has fallen. At the same time, reduction of physician salaries continues to make the rounds as a plausible consideration for budgetary savings.

This is the best line from both articles.

The next time you are lying in bed needing emergency surgery, remember this — we will be there. Pay or no pay. Assign a value to that ideal, and then consider whether or not we are “overpaid.”
That's the final word isn't it.
