People in DC adore her. And I gather mostly it's because of her fashion sense really. The healthy initiatives... Ho hum. Look at her toned arms!!

They said the same thing about Petreas' mistress. She has toned arms too. Big big news.

I think ladybug says it best. Why do we keep on doing this to women in power? Why does Barbara Walters ask Hillary about her hair and waste interview time on that? Ugh.

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

Probably for the same reason that the idiotic "who do YOU want to drink a beer with" bullshit became a thing. People are fucking morons and the media is only too happy to deliver fluff than actually do their damn jobs.

I love that the most contentious debates always seem to have "I'm not sure this belongs in debates..."

Anyway, I agree with Ladybug. I don't remember much being said about Laura Bush, but damn, I remember discussions in the news about Hilary's cankles, headbands, and how she felt obligated to trot out her "homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe." Ugh. I'd be flaming pissed off if my body parts were being discussed in the news.

As far as Michelle Obama goes, I think she looks pretty damn good for a 49 year old mother. Sure, she's got junk in the trunk. The rest of her body is fairly lean, and I certainly wouldn't classify her as unhealthy. While I may not agree with all of the government's nutrition guidelines, I do applaud her efforts to draw attention to the issue.

Ha this is like if BET criticized Heidi Klum for having no butt saying it's supposed to look like the ones in hip hop videos. In my opinion, she is the opposite of skinny fat. She's not skinny but looks toned. Tara Reid or Amy Winehouse yes definitely skinny-fat. Breast or butt size is not the determining factor for being "fat." You can be obese with a flat butt and vice versa. I wouldn't mind having a ghetto booty and big hips haha... just as long as I'm not fat. Unfortunately, when I gain weight my butt is the only thing that doesnt grow and that just doesn't look right, although I do like that my boobs get really big

How many times has the NYT or Washington Post done a "fat booty" article on a U.S. Senator or male spouse of some high level government official? How many times have they had a "beer-belly" article about a U.S. Representative or two? How many times have we seen major news outlets doing articles on rampant male patterned baldness or some other physical trait in men?

Who the heck cares what Michelle Obama's butt looks like. It says nothing about her opinions, her influence, or her goals. Just another crap male chauvinist article.

And, as far as criticizing her less-than-perfect physique because she has made nutrition and exercise a First Lady campaign.... How many people in the healthcare field have fat butts or are just fat? Does it make them less-than-perfect at their jobs as doctors, nurses, or techs?

I also don't understand why the high school coach in the article was suspended from his job. If he wants to call Michelle Obama fat - it's his perogative. Even though I think pointing it out is ridiculous it's still his First Ammendment right to state he thinks someone is unhealthy in their weight. Are we going to start suspending doctors for referring to patients as fat as well?

I think there is a heaping mound of ridiculous surrounding this entire topic - from every side.

My thought was that his "fat" comment was not the real issue but more newsworthy because it is the first lady - I think he was suspended for using derogatory slurs toward homosexuals.
