I hope most of what he is saying is for the benefit of North Koreans. I feel like he might not know how to back down though after making all of these threats. He's so young...he has no idea what he's getting into. Worrisome to say the least.

Mommax3: have you heard anything from your brother? You must be concerned!

Thanks for asking. I haven't heard from him directly (which is not unusual) but he has been active on facebook. He is in the Army band (plays guitar and sings...does covers), but they have other non-musical duties as well. This is his second deployment to Korea. I think about him all the time! I will keep you guys posted.

I was listening to NPR the other day and there was a story about how the propaganda that is put out for the western media does not match at all what the western visitors saw while in NK. they saw a very quotidian existence without any overt military presence.

I'm trying to ignore it!!!! I would think that China would tell him to back off because I'm sure they don't want the US stepping up it's presence over there.

They seem to try and flex their muscles when they are in great need of food and supplies. This has worked for them for years, so they keep doing it. It is really sad because money has been given to them only for it to go to the Kim family while their people starve. It is a no win situation. I can't imagine what those poor people in the country have to live with. The fear of people turning on neighbors, malnutrition, and spotty electricity and meanwhile they have to worship these guys as gods. They are the worst of the worst. As much as I hate to say it, I hope we don't give them another penny to keep this crap show going. On the other hand, I definitely don't think we can deal with another war right now.
