Am I so far out of touch that I think this article is ridiculous?

So she roasted a pig for her son's party. Then she has to apologize? I just don't understand why we as humans have to justify or defend everything we do these days...

That's just stupid. She has nothing to apologize for.

People need to chill the heck out. A pig roast is a common thing around here.

Kris, please tell me that you have seen the Party with a Pig! sign on 94 East. Whenever somebody has a pig roast, I think of that awesome sign.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

Of course! But, seriously, I cannot imagine a big Wisconsin (casual) shindig without a pig roast or chicken-Q. We do roasted meats here.

I feel like this is what happens when people share so much/everything via FB, Twitter, Instagram, whatever. Especially public figures...you're just allowing a bunch of bored morons to bash you behind the guise of the internet and not actually having to say things out loud.

If I spend enough time thinking about it, I get SO furious about how we seem to live in an environment where EVERYTHING - EV ER Y TH I NG - is subject to insane scrutiny, everything is going to offend *someone*, etc. You literally cannot say/post/do anything. Ever. Someone will be offended. Someone will be disgusted. Someone will be unable to hold themselves back from offering up their opinion about how what you did/post/said is wrong/terrible/inconsiderate/dangerous/irresponsible/etc. The amount of care taken to avoid being offensive/politically/socially incorrect is so insane to me. There is no freedom of speech/expression, it sometimes seems. Sure, you can say it...but brace yourself for the backlash.

Oh my goodness. On Facebook there are pictures of me slicing into the face of a whole roast pig with my bare hands and a huge knife (the cheek is delicious). I think later on there's also a picture of me holding the head. I can only imagine what people could say about that. It was a friend's Midsommar party that fed at least 30 people, and the pig had been butchered locally the day before. She and I were in charge of the deconstruction so that people could, you know, EAT it. It was fantastic. No apologies.

When I lived in Miami where there is a huge Cuban and South American community, pig roasts were very popular. I had one law partner who used to host annual parties at his home. He was known for being a fabulous cook and his parties always included a fire pit dug into the ground with a huge pig on a spit roasting over it. My brother married a girl whose father's family is from Paraguay. When they were dating, her dad used to roast pigs just to freak out her Jewish boyfriend.

If she lobbied for and wooed "vegan voters" and she encourages them to follow her on social media *then **maybe** a warning would be appropriate...however if those that complained didn't vote for her, then they need to STfrickU!

I'm sure if she had posted a picture of a vegetarian dish she would have been trashed for not supporting local farmers or some such nonsense. Pig roasts are huge here too.

Meh. I don't get why people give a shit what anyone else eats.

I don't eat bread. You don't see me with my panties in a wad when my friend who owns a bakery posts pics of his amazing-looking wares.
