  • Little Rock School District is making their teachers wear underwear

    http://news.yahoo.com/little-rock-sc...030208103.html

This doesn't seem over the top to me (I actually laughed), but apparently some teachers are upset about it. Discuss. Make jokes. Who is going to be the panty enforcer? LOL

Uh, yeah. If you are teaching children, you should be appropriately and professionally dressed...

and we wonder what's happening to our public schools...

Weird that this is a problem. I have never seen a teacher at any of DS's schools dressed improperly. I can't imagine.

I don't get what the fuss is about. Teachers are professionals and shouldn't be wearing flip flops or see through garments. And underwear? Really?

I want to know what happened that made them make this a rule.

That is pretty much a good rule for ANYONE over the age of about 30.

(Personally, I think this is a good rule for everyone. We don't need burqas or pioneer-style petticoats, but some modesty affords some dignity. But, just as a matter of compassion to your fellow citizens...if you are over about 30, no one wants to see that hanging out. Really. Even if you are a gym rat with ripped abs...you are still way too old to pull off that look. Demi Moore may be sexy at 50 and have a ripped bod, but she's the mother of three. Freaking put on some clothes.)

Really, rules like this are more about being able to do something if someone completely lacks good judgment and decency. We had similar rules in my workplace and people would still find a way to be inappropriate. For instance, there was one very young associate in my department who used to shop at the same stores I did and wore exactly the same outfits I wore to work. The problem was that she wore the outfits in the same size that I wore while she was at least 4 or 5 sizes larger than I was. Even a conservative Ann Taylor sweater set can be really inappropriate if worn 3+ sizes too small. (Seriously, the men in our department complained to me that they did not know where to look when she was in their offices and begged me to speak with her. However, her performance as an attorney was so awful that I considered the office attire issue to be minor. I suspect that the men didn't notice the performance issues because they were too distracted by her snug pants.) We also had one paralegal who used to wear very expensive suits that surely were once beautiful. But hers were stained, smelly, and torn beyond repair; she usually came to work looking like she'd been in an accident of some sort. Of course, our dress code didn't address these scenarios because it seems like common sense that professionals would wear clothes that are clean, in good repair, and that fit properly.

We've seen complaints in this forum about young residents wearing belly shirts or visible thongs to the hospital so I suppose that it stands to reason that the basics -- like wearing underpants -- are being missed by people other than attention-craving starlets.

We aren't supposed to wear open toe slingbacks.... only one opening or the other. Which I think is SILLY. My peep toe slingbacks are way more conservative than those six inch platform heels!

Ok, here's the unofficial story! A teacher was accused of not wearing a bra when her nipples were showing through her blouse. She claimed she did have a bra on, but that the A/C was too cold and caused them to pop up.
                        LMAO!

Hilarious! Hey teacher- Layer a camisole under your blouse! Or wear a t-shirt bra.

I had a male history teacher with the same issue. I swear we knew all of his outfits. I still remember them. Brown cord pants with a worn spot he tried to cover up. Black dress pants with the blue dress shirt. And nipple shirt.

But still one of my fav teachers ever

The WORST offender was a dance teacher I had in college. He used to wear tights to class without a ballet belt (sort of like a cup). All his junk was just hanging out. I would have appreciated an underwear rule in that class.
