  • Undercover Cops in High School

I found this story deeply disturbing.

Who uses a machete to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass

There was a similar story on This American Life last year, although without the disability angle. Still somewhat troubling though.

Very disturbing. Sounds like possibly entrapment.

I remember hearing the This America. life story. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

        Cliff notes:

Undercover female cop posing as a high school student flirted with a boy and got him to buy her drugs. He claims he was just trying to impress her and she goaded him into it and wouldn't have otherwise. Lost his chance to go to college

I've been reading about that since it first happened. That district is STUPID.

For pot? Gah. It should be legal anyway, and entrapping kids? With disabilities? So wrong.

                Undercover Cops in High School

I've been reading the dad's blog since this first began. The kid, while able to function in mainstream classes, is autistic and has the social skills of an early middle schooler. Kid isn't a stoner, but thought he was helping a friend who was giving him attention and an immense amount of pressure to deliver some hippie lettuce.

The undercover cop intentionally targeted multiple kids with disabilities in order to gin up weed arrests. IIRC, his ONLY arrests were kids with significant disabilities. District administrators were in on the activities and had OK'd the entire operation. After the court cases were dismissed, the school administrators STILL tried to expel those students, even though the judge reprimanded the district and the police department for their ridiculously flawed operation. District had to be court ordered to allow the kid back, but by then it was too late for him to graduate because he'd missed so much class.

Yeah, they're dicks. Dicks who will likely get sued for being such unapologetic fuckchops.

I cant say I'm in the "legalize pot" group, but I just don't like the idea of coercing someone into a crime to catch them. It doesn't seem right. Though I guess you could argue cops catching internet creepos preying on kiddos is a similar idea, but in these cases, I don't think you can truly know the kid would have gotten involved with the drugs if the cop hadn't pushed them.

Weed is legal in my state and it's not really a big deal.

I wonder how much this debacle cost and who is paying for it. (to say nothing of the emotional costs to the kids involved!)

I'm all for the decriminalization of marijuana. IMO, it's safer than alcohol.

Again, +1 (and then add like, way more numbers as well). I can't tell you how deeply disturbing each episode of Intervention featuring a severe alcoholic are for me to watch. The things alcoholism does to people and their families is really scary to me.

It's just so wrong. I can't understand how that wouldn't be entrapment.
