Every year, I pay taxes to the United States government. I tell myself that I’m paying for roads and schools; food for hungry families and head start programs.

I am, of course. But I’m also paying for Guantanamo Bay.

I’m paying for two wars, and for racist immigration laws.

I’m paying for drone strikes, including those that kill and maim children.

I’m paying for federal executions, and for lawyers to argue that the government is not obligated to provide comprehensive medical care to Chelsea Manning.

I’m paying for the prison industrial complex.

All of those things violate my religious beliefs.

And if I refused to pay my taxes because of that? I would go to jail.
The above resonates deeply with me. And, it's why I think the entire issue is beside the point. Each of us are forced at gunpoint to pay for things which we find morally abhorrent. And, that is wrong. - Libertarian rant for the day

That's funny, I agreed with you until your conclusion. Mine happens to be the total opposite, which is "therefore, because we pay taxes on issues we may disagree with they most certainly should be responsible for providing the same kind of healthcare as other employers." -Socialist at heart.

I also agree with the first part of Rapunzel's statement. I think a lot of us do and that contributes to the distrust and anger at governments today.
We pay a lot of taxes and we all support things we don't like.

I think some acceptance of other's will is a given in a democracy, but we are skewing towards asking too much from everyone. Not sure what the solution is, but I think people on all ends of the political spectrum feel this injustice.
