    I think that GW Bush would have been absolutely slammed in the press if this happened during his presidency. The narrative about him was typically that he was a buffoon. Whereas the narrative about Obama is "great orator" so the press is more forgiving.

      I don't think the press is talking about him being a great orator. This is the only story about Mandela's event seeing. And I'm seeing it over and over. And yes, same would have happened with George Bush. It's just what our media does now.

        Without context, meh, I can't pass judgement.

        I hope my life is as meaningful and death as peaceful as Mandela's so my funeral could have the same vibe!

        On a random note somewhat related to what T&S said, a law school friend had George W Bush come to speak to their class unexpectedly recently. Hour of open discussion. She was pretty impressed by him and thought how he handled some snarky looks and loaded questions (How can you live with yourself after commiting genocide?) from 2 students was epic. She's a total liberal. (For Texas at least)
