  • Well, That's One Way To Pay for Med School

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5227509.html

Med Student auctioning her virginity. Ick.

I'm not that skeeved by it. I think people place too much emphasis on virginity. I think if she can pay for med school, then great. I think she might be a bit naive in her ability to control anything, but 500K will buy a lot of therapy. I do wonder about her ability to match. Her identity will be leaked.

So... If she's an md/phd doesn't that mean her education is paid for?

        ^ good point.

This reminds me of the uproar over the Duke student (name still withheld as far as I know, could be wrong) who does porn to pay for school. She's a great student, and her parents couldn't pay. She made the choice to do porn, because she *likes* it. People were just outraged that she would do such a thing...but she owned the hell out of it. She didn't appreciate a classmate outing her, but knew it could happen. People raking her over the coals, slut-shaming her, etc. conveniently forgot that she is an adult who made a choice to do something she likes.

Same thing seems to be a play here, though I get the sense that this girl wants a little more attention and uproar instead of quietly going about her business. Nice try keeping her name anonymous, but there's absolutely no way she'll stay that way for long - not with pictures out there. Instead of judging her decision to be gross or indecent, I'm cringing for the effects this will have on her career - she's not doing herself any favors (again - has nothing to do with the choices she makes about her sexuality and body - the same can be said for that classmate of ST's husband who writes articles that are a bit controversial and comes off looking rather annoying. Or that guy in the news who dances around the hospital. Ugh.).

In my ex's med school class there was a girl who legit stripped her way through med school. I thought that was a made up thing, (a la pretty woman. fall in love with the hooker). Imagine my embarrassment when we went to the strip club for a friends 21st birthday (her kid brother was 19 and it was the only place we could go and get him in, plus boobies are funny) and I saw one of his classmates on stage. I'm surprised I was the first one.

Doesn't she think maybe this will hurt her chances for a good residency? Yes she's using a fake name but her picture is now public, doesn't she think people will recognize her?

The picture looks photo-shopped to me.

Regardless of whether it's her first time or millionth time, the concept of auctioning off sex nauseates me. Incurring an obligation to be that intimate with a stranger. She seems very naive to think she has control over whether the highest bidder will be using drugs or could turn violent and she's even suggested that she thinks a love match could come of this? Really? She thinks she'll find love with an anonymous guy who bid to have sex with her?

Personal opinions aside, I think that was her biggest mistake. She'll be outed in no time if this gets enough internet momentum. Regardless of her intentions or outlook, the whole thing isn't going to put her in a flattering light.

Trading sex for money is never cool in my book. Hope she doesn't want to be a pediatrician.

I think prostitution should be legal and regulated. She is clearly consenting. I don't think it's a strategy I would employ, but I'm not inclined to judge her severely for it. I think plenty of future employers will, however.

Agreed. It's her body, she can do with it what she wants. She may have to answer for it in the future - especially with how small the medical community can seem.

Oh hell, lots of people give sex away for a song and no one says a thing. I don't think this is a great idea but how is getting paid for sex any different than giving it up for dinner and a movie? Assuming you have more control over one than the other is just wishful thinking.

Note: I believe is abstinence until marriage so believe that is the way to go but I'm not in an uproar over this.

I call bullshit on the whole thing. No way that this is real.

1.) As someone else pointed out MD/PhD = paid education.

2.) NFW that her classmates won't recognize the pics and blabbing all over the place.

3.) Even if she's using a fake name, her career would be over before it begins once programs see her on the residency interview trail.

4.) This person doesn't realize that medicine is a SMALL world. People talk, particularly about shit like this. NFW her classmates wouldn't be gossiping about this all over.
