Whether to legalize medical marijuana seems to be the news of the day. Looks like Florida may do it: http://miami.cbslocal.com/2014/05/02...arijuana-bill/. Fox Business.com says that 53% of doctors support legalization: http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-...cal-marijuana/ Thoughts?

Medicinal and recreational use is legal here. So far, no big deal. The taxes are WILD. I'd be surprised if more states weren't looking into it for the tax benefits alone.

I'm for legalization of marijuana for medical and recreational use.

Same here. It doesn't seem to make sense that alcohol can be legal and widely used but marijuana is frowned upon and makes people freak the eff out.

I'm on the fence. I think this should be federal, not state law. I worry what will happen when a new administration comes in to office and charges the AG with cracking down on offenders in states that have legalized.

I'm curious about why Amsterdam is trying to add more controls and laws against pot now after 20 years of legality, I wonder what they've learned and what we should learn from their experience.

Personally, I have a relative that was baked through much of high school due to family stress and boredom. He never dug out of that and did venture in to harder drugs later in life. So, I'm wary just as I am with alcohol. When you come for a family with addiction in it, I feel like you have to be more careful and this is just one more legally available drug that could send the wrong message to my offspring. Anyhoo, I'm a goody-goody. I'll own that. It's not for me.

I think it should be decriminalized, but not legalized. Make the penalty a fine not a jail sentence. Make it like speeding.

Medical marijuana had made its way into vetmed. But it's all anecdotal.

I think lowering the schedule should be the first step. There isn't the research to justify it staying as a schedule 1. And if it was a schedule 2 even, it could be studied legitimately and thoroughly to identify all of the medicinal properties. However I am pretty sure that won't happen. No one stands to profit from having it legal. It's too easy to grow in your backyard. I doubt the licensing for home growth could ever generate enough revenue.

I saw the article but haven't read about Amsterdam yet. I'll look into that.

                Medical Marijuana

They tax the shit out of commercial growers at all stages in our state. The facilities, licenses to grow/process/sell, the number of plants themselves, the processing of the mature plants, and then finally when sold to the consumer. People with medical cards can grow a specific number of their own plants (it's not a lot) and those aren't taxed.

Funny enough, one of my good friend's dad is a partner in a commercial grow operation. They regulate the ever-loving shit out of these guys. We're also located in a VERY common grow area. All that agricultural infrastructure comes in handy.
