Is there anyone else here who is horrified about this case and how it turned out? The video is shocking ... it certainly makes the case that body cams won't be helpful when it comes to protecting police/civilians in a disagreement.

I feel disheartened about where we are right now in this country.

Did the officer lose his job? I haven't been able to find anything other than the lack of indictment. I absolutely agree that what he did was wrong, there is irrefutable evidence of such, and a man died as a result. I also agree that the state of our country is really sad.

I did think this was an interesting article backing the decision though: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_a...ed_in_the.html

I also read that the jurors were only asked to consider manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, and not reckless endangerment.

Man this one really bugs me. That video really upsets me. That poor man. I didn't see him doing anything aggressive or saying anything threatening that warranted being choked out on a public street. I can see the reasoning behind the Ferguson outcome, but this guy did NOT deserve this IMO.

        I agree with this completely.

I thought this article had some good thoughts on how body cameras are still a good idea:

Basically, yeah, the video footage didn't help bring an indictment in this case, but it did help in that it brought to light a potential injustice. Many people feel that the police used unnecessary force and were convinced of that because of the footage (not just based on witness testimony), and the more cases like these that can be brought to light with the use of body cameras, the better.
