• How thick is your bubble?

Found this quiz on the Facebook group and thought it was really interesting. I got a 52, and it says the average is 41, so I guess my bubble is a little thinner than average. Most of my points came from my childhood, growing up in a poor rural town. My kids' bubbles will be much thicker.

    11–80: A first-generation upper-middle-class person with middle-class parents. Typical: 33.

    Very true. They nailed it.

34 points. Very sheltered upbringing. My husband probably has the same; many of our points came from our fathers' work. They both own blue collar businesses so we've had experience working blue collar jobs but it's a different thing when working on a factory floor a summer job than when it's a lifetime career. My kids have an even thinner bubble since DrK and I are both white collar professionals. I cringe every time my kids ask to go out to dinner or to go to Starbucks like it's not a big deal.

I got 31. But this probably isn't representative. I grew up upper-middle class for sure. My dad was Ivy League and my mom went to a prestigious women's college in the northeast. My life was hard because neither of them really wanted kids but in terms of exposure to people "not like me" or being financially on the edge, it was pretty minimal until college.

Our kids are currently being raised at a lower standard of living that I had and higher (by a lot) than what Dh had. That's what we are going for... I'd rather them live in a middle class neighborhood than an upper class one on any day.

I'm at 25. Totally sheltered suburban childhood with teachers for parents, introvert without very many people I consider "close friends".

59! Seems a little high. DH got a 37. We have similar backgrounds. First generation college, both of our parents are working class. My dad was a small business owner, but I would still consider him a blue collar.

I got 35, but a lot of the questions were surprisingly tricky to answer. For example, like poky, I don't have "close friends" but most of the people I know and interact with around here are some flavor of evangelical, and conservative to my liberal, so...I might go back through and read the "why this question" explanations to get it more accurate.

22! Holy thick bubble right here. I think it's pretty accurate, I'm definitely a first gen upper middle class person from a middle class upbringing. My dad used to be a college professor and my mom used to be a graphic designer, but my dad pursued self employment and my mom became a SAHM which led to a relatively low-income childhood. Social influences were still very sheltered and suburban though. Pretty similar to what Poky said, but apparently even more sheltered! I need to get out more.

                              How thick is your bubble?

                              40. My fathers job as a mechanic added a lot, as did living in the South. Also I've totally been to Branson. Love it! My father didn't go to college and was the primary breadwinner, though my mom was a SAHM with a masters degree. Ironically my dads parents were both highly highly educated

My kids score would be pretty high though.

Also I've never seen those movies because I'm a mom to small children...that's it!

                              Cool quiz though.
