  • Surgeons are Red, Psychiatrists are Blue....

Any thoughts on this NYT article? DrK is a Republican psychiatrist though tends to vote Democrat on social issues. I suspect his Republican ties are a carry over from his business school days.

Aesthesiogists are 65% republican. DH is a very strong democrat, and he keeps pretty quiet about it at work to keep it from hurting him professionally.

It's very strongly correlated with the same gender/age breakdowns of the current parties. Urologists are often older men...who are mostly Republican. Whereas pediatricians and OBs are more likely to be women...

It doesn't surprise me at all for EM. It's obvious at any meeting that there's a 50/50 split.

This is in keeping with my experience with pediatricians, certainly.

No surprise for me based on what I've seen in orthopedics, too. DH is a Democrat, but keeps pretty quiet at work since almost everyone he works with now and during fellowship has been Republican.

I suspect your location enhances that quite a bit

I think you're probably right on this aspect of it, too.

Locations and demographics can really impact choices.
