  • Evan McMullin

I started this election cycle thinking I'd vote for whatever Republican came up on top on November 8th and ignore everything in between.

How things change! In some ways, I'm grateful--it's made me think a lot. I'm voting tomorrow--or maybe the day after --and my vote will be a write in for Evan McMullin. I cannot in good conscience vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Gary Johnson is a refreshing 3rd party voice, but on the issues, he may be further away from my values than either of the main candidates. (And I'm still less than impressed on his foreign policy understanding. *cough* Aleppo *cough*)

Think all Conservatives are heartless? Check this out:

This article is a good bio of him and what he brings to the table: (Spoiler: He knows a lot about Aleppo!)

    http://www.sltrib.com/home/4506207-1...-an-unorthodox

I know he isn't going to win (it's possible, but extremely unlikely), but my hope is that enough support for him will be a positive voice over the next 4 years and go on to grow into something bigger. I'd like to see more of him in any political context.

Also, his VP pick is the bomb: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...=.df93fd38143f

He's on the ballot in the states below and an official write-in candidate in the majority of the others:

    Colorado
    Utah
    Idaho
    New Mexico
    Arkansas
    Louisiana
    Minnesota
    Iowa
    Kentucky
    Virginia
    South Carolina
Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

I really like him. I want to write him in. But I'm scared that NC is a swing stage and anything less than a vote for HRC is a vote for Trump.

I don't know what to do. I really really want to vote for who I would choose but Trump cannot win.

This would be my concern also. Living in a swing state is stressing me out.

In a swing state, I'd vote for Clinton. I think for the people dissatisfied with the candidates, it is a team effort. Swing state voters go Clinton, and let us solid red or blue states do the write-ins and third party voting. I hope this election is a good lesson for both parties on choosing electable candidates.

Obama is speaking on campus today. Security and the event set up starts at 10 AM for a 3:30 rally. If DH is delayed getting home tonight, I'll be pissed. I will vote for whoever candidate gets his home sooner at this point!

I read about McMullen, interesting background and campaign.
Count me in for voting for HRC and hating myself for it. If I wasn't in a swing state I'd vote 3rd party but I have to do my part in keeping Trump out.

Most of my family, now in Georgia and Alabama, will be writing in McMullin. One sister, in AL quipped that she'll be voting for HRC to cancel out at least one vote her friends are making for Trump. Of course I hoped she wasn't joking. I'm glad they've found a candidate they believe in but as the race narrows am starting to get really scared. They don't think it would be a disaster if HRC won, they just don't like her, and perhaps think she's corrupt. However they do think Trump is against everything that they believe in.

MIL on the other hand? Told DH she wants to see the "DC machine explode." Whatever the fuck that means. I can't fathom how any Christian can vote for Trump.

This. 100%. There's no way you can believe the Scriptures and support him. Our (now former) church released a statement last week endorsing him. We won't ever go back there. Sigh.

Red state - I voted 3rd party, because I also couldn't vote for Clinton or Trump.

I don't think hubby is going to make time to vote. He could have gone Saturday, or even last Thursday when I went, but he didn't, and now he claims he doesn't have time. Probably for the best though, because I suspect he might be voting for Trump, but he won't tell me.

Me either but most of my family and church probably are. They're voting purely on the Supreme Court issue.

He lost my vote as a Christian when he said "I've never once asked God for forgiveness for ANYTHING" and yet somehow people are thinking he's going to nominate a pro-life justice? I don't buy it...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to hold my nose and vote for HRC. And it will be a STRONG hold considering I disagree with her on almost every position with a handful of exceptions. The race is too close and NC needs to be blue. The Dems are panicking here bc it looks like the urban African American vote is lagging in early voting. They need them to counterbalance the rural Trump voters.

I hate this. I can't believe I'm going to vote for someone I dislike this much just to stop Trump.

I also don't understand the Supreme Court justice argument. First, I don't believe he would prioritize pro-life judges. My assumption is that he would prioritize people who would support his business interests. Second, Republicans have set the precedent for blocking nominations. I'm guessing at most he'd get one through, and they'd block the rest until after the next presidential election.
