What a terrible decision that EO was...
Beyond his claim to faith (which, in Christianity, violates the command to "seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God" [among other things]), it is inhumane to determine that someone running from the threat of persecution and genocide is unwelcome.

I'm at a lost for words!!!! Today it's Muslims, tomorrow who? Next it will be the Latino/Hispanic countries? I teared up reading an article on a man who helped American Soldiers and is having to go back and hasn't seen his son in 3 years. I seriously thought of my grandma who is overseas and wondering "what if"

I'm not sure how I feel about the EO because I do feel we should not let people in that we can't vet. But ... where was the outrage when Obama instituted a 6 month Iraq ban. I never heard a single protest.

Trump’s order reaches much, much further than Obama’s.

It's my understanding that these refugees have been through a thorough vetting process already. Some are even physicians who have been practicing here for years and went on vacation only to find they are not allowed back in. Why is there an exception being made for Christian refugees? Seems to me like this is clearly a Muslim ban and it is not what America was founded upon or represents. At least the America I know and love.

I'm most worried that this is a tactic to get us all riled up so that Steve Bannon can slide into the Security Council unopposed. With each of Trump's decisions, I feel like we're in a game of "watch the birds" as something awful is put into place.

I think I'm more afraid of Bannon than I am afraid of Muslims. He has too much influence over the president.

I am also bothered by the preference given to Christian refugees. 2 of my grandparents were refugees. One has a criminal record for speaking against his government. (Which also makes me worried about Trump's proposed weekly immigrant criminals list - when governments are unstable, people and actions that otherwise wouldn't be illegal become criminalized.) My grandparents wouldn't have been admitted to the US today. Both lost their entire village ( not family, village....in my grandfather's case, only a lamppost remains) in WWII. My relatives who came the generations before, were fleeing WWI and the Franco Prussian war.

I think most of our family histories have stories of being refugees at some point. America was settled by people who were fleeing war, starvation, religious persecution. To turn our backs on non-Christians is inconsistent with American values.

My understanding is that the vetting process currently takes 2 years in order to immigrate. What is the "extreme vetting" Trump proposes supposed to look like? I heard that people were being asked their opinion of Trump when they were detained.

As for your attack at the mall....I think that we need to do some things domestically to address that kind of violence. That would include shootings at schools, churches and movie theatres. We have been letting that go on too long and many of those instances are unrelated to terrorism.

Worst Trump/immigration joke I've heard... After the Mexican president took up Trump's invitation to cancel their planned meeting, it was commented:

"Look! Trump is even better and faster than he promised... he's already keeping out Mexicans!"

                          [eyeroll]

Not too funny. I want the illegal immigration along the border controlled, but attempting to emasculate the Mexican president with weird threats of "you'll pay for my wall!" may not be the best way to go.

Obama's ban was different. There wasn't mass chaos of people arriving at US airports and being detained indefinitely. http://www.factcheck.org/2017/01/tru...cy-comparison/

Also there is a stringent vetting process in place: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...?smid=fb-share

How about Obama's about face with Cuban refugees and the hardships that caused. Where was the outrage about the chaos then? The temporary bans are on the 7 countries that Obama deemed risky due to terrorism. FYI, 80% + of the world's Muslims are free to come here. It's not a Muslim ban. I don't agree with how the ban was implemented, but I read that the number of people affected was below 200. The chaos was protesters in the airports that prevented regular travelers from making flights.
