  • What the Health?

This documentary is on Netflix and is making the rounds amongst my friend group. I tried to watch it tonight and turned it off after 5 minutes. I've seen different iterations of, what I assume, this doc is: meat is carcinogenic, the American diet is lethal, trust no government agency when it comes to nutritional recommendations, etc. Docs like this annoy me for several reasons, including fear mongering and sensationalism, and the significant attention paid to the horrible treatment sustained by animals rather than the farm workers who pick our food. Admittedly I only watched this one for a few minutes so I could be totally off with my assessment. It seemed so familiar, though.

I was a vegetarian and vegan for a couple years in my early 20s. After DH and I watched Food Inc. and several other similar movies we went on an organic kick for a while. Since he started the whole med school journey thing we've prioritized budget over organic, free range, etc. I eat reasonably well and feel pretty good.

Have y'all seen it? Is it worth trying to get through? Anything new or compelling?

Just my opinion, but it's completely bullshit.

Anyway, I couldn't watch it. It's overly sensational and way off base.

I've seen some chatter online but haven't bothered. I....generally don't watch documentaries. They're just informative enough to be boring but not fast pace enough to make me feel like I'm learning.

I read most of The China Study way back when and considered going raw, just because a guy I was kind of seeing was totally obsessed. It was after a 4 year stint of strict vegetarianism so it never stuck.

I tend to think organic labeling is bullshit but don't have any good reason why.

I've never been much of a meat eater except when I did paleo, and now CrossFit. It's not on purpose. I just come home and want large quantities of meat.
