When my mom flew from here a few weeks ago, she was surprised to find her pocketknife in her purse. She thought she had taken it out -- guess not!

Yeah, they really need to make improvements to their searches. We always bring a portable dvd player on the plane. Whenever it passes through the metal detector, they always ask what it is. We tell them it's a dvd player and they just pass it right through without even taking it out to see if that's indeed what it really is.

Several months ago, at LAX, they fired about 100 TSA employees. They all had criminal records...turns out they didn't do a very thorough background check when they were hired. The worst part is they worked at the airport for over a year before their criminal histories were discovered. Now, I'm sure they weren't murderers, but still.....

Thanks! I'm only about 6 weeks along, but still feeling good. Jane, what pregnancy books are you reading? I've read Girlfriend's Guide and Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs. There wasn't a whole lot of substance to McCarthy's book (surprise, surprise), but I got a few good laughs out of it!

Sooo, for those of you who had morning sickness, when did it start? I had a couple blah days last weekend, feeling fine now...but I'm afraid that it will hit me any day now.

(My apologies, this thread has gotten way off-course!)

              Erica,

Congratulations, that's so exciting! I've just about finished The Girlfriend's Guide, and I'm going to borrow Belly Laughs from a friend. For reference I have The Pregnancy Journal (I like it because it describes day-to-day development, so I just read about that day before I go to bed at night), The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby, Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy, and The Pregnancy Bible. I just read the pertinent sections in each book as I progress. I personally like The Unofficial Guide the best.

Good luck with the morning sickness, I had it the worst from weeks 6-8 (no vomiting, though, so I'm thankful for that!). From week 8 until now (about 11.5 weeks) I've just had a very sensitive stomach and indigestion. I still feel yucky if I don't eat, but I don't have the persistent nausea that I was having. I'm definitely better than I was, but still not 100%. One minor annoyance (so far!) has been that since I've been constantly eating to ward off the nausea/yucky feelings, I've already gained 10 pounds (I was shooting for a 5-lb weight gain this first trimester). Bleh.

                LOVED the purple friend story......

Congrats, Erica! Whatever you do, don't take the "What to Expect..." book seriously if you happen to pick it up. I read it and all I felt was guilt for eating tons of ice cream! But now I'm kind of glad I did...it was worth every lick! :] :]

                        Erice -
CONGRATULATION!!! I don't think you want me to answer your morning sickness question... I am one of those lucky ones who gets to experience the FULL FORCE of morning sickness and heartburn from day one until delivery (even so far as throwing up on the delivery table! Sorry, TMI). For me, the best part was right after delivery- realizing that all of the discomfort IS really temporary (although I would refute that statement right now, being 26 weeks along and seeing February as a moment in time that will never really get here!), and the result is an incredible miracle that will change your life forever, in a way you never dreamed possible.
I ready What to Expect when Your Expecting, and took some of the far out ideas tongue in cheek - kind of molding it to my own situation. Although - reading the part about signs of preterm labor and if you should call your doctor or not is what got me to (reluctantly) call my doctor the next day, and ended up deliverying our twins that next night - so it did have some good advice for me .
Good luck on the next 8-9 months!

                        Jen B.

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure if I have morning sickness yet. I stayed in bed...well...pretty much all day yesterday with a migraine and feeling nauseous. I'm hoping the nausea was from the migraine and not morning sickness because at least those only last a few days at most.

I am so stressed about this morning sickness thing. I was up half the night worrying that I would be throwing up all day today at a fundraiser where I was working. Thank goodness I woke up feeling ok! And my in-laws are coming to town next week...they're hard enough to deal with when I'm feeling 100%....

Anyways, I'm very grateful for my situation and I'd happily go through 40 weeks of morning sickness if I needed to!
