I agree, very well said Nellie. I would much rather live in a shack without air conditioning and have my privacy rather than live in an air conditioned football stadium with 1000's of others with absolutely no privacy.

Barbara Bush is a raging alcoholic -- ask anyone in Kennebunk. She was probably drunk. That's the only excuse I can think of that she would say something to blatantly insensitive and just plain wrong.

Wow! I'd never heard that! Where does that information come from? I live in the middle of "We love Democrats" land (with the Boston Globe - not a pinnacle of unbiased journalism - as the town's major paper) and it's only about a three hour drive from here to Kennebunkport, Maine - you'd think the papers would've mentioned she'd been around town drunk as a skunk? Or has this been making the rounds in the papers here and I just missed it?

Too true.... I often wonder about these politician's wives that put up with abominable behavior. Being alcoholics could explain a LOT.

Don't underestimate the power the Bush family has over the press -- even in "we love Democrats" land. I used to live in Maine, and still summer there every year. I know a multitude of people in southern Maine with lots of stories. It never seems to make it to the press however . . .

Yeah, but are these people actually friends and acquaintances of the Bush family? Gossip isn't necessarily to be believed - even people who seem drunk can actually be on pain killers or in other situations. I've heard weird speculative gossip before that turned out to be completely untrue. There are a lot of people who live in southern Maine (although I thought Kennebunkport was about half-way up the coast?) and I'd wager that the vast majority of them wouldn't havea clue as to the Bush family's actual behavior - although if they are Democrats it might make them more likely to repeat unsubstantiated gossip.

Now, if the Bush's have a servant that you know who told you this I'd be likely to believe it. My friend who was a former nanny for people like that witnessed her employer sniffing cocaine for instance. Servants see a LOT. But, if it's just people who see the rich and famous in restaraunts or shopping I just don't put much stock into that type of commentary. I guess what I'm saying is the source is very important for an allegation this serious.

According to some people who have met Mrs. Bush, and others who have attended social fuctions, it's not uncommon to her to have a 'aura' of smoke. Actually, it was someone close to me who told me (no names or relationships...) and I independently confirmed with two other people- one the spouse of a Bush appointee and one whose spouse works for a very highly placed member of Congress. (remember, DC really is a very small town)

and have you looked at her upper lip? Laura needs a little collagen and some botox...
