I don't think R has to apologize for anything.

Where is J's apology to me for telling me that my opinion or war is irrelevant and to "shut the f up"? I was also told that I can't even have an opinion on the subject because I or my wife hasn't "parachuted into a war zone with a rifle". I haven't heard anyone chime in and state that this comment/attack was unfair.

If I was hypersensitive I would try to demand an apology, but I am not.

And grandparents? Exactly whom among us have grandparents who WEREN'T involved in one war or another. Although there were inequities, I'm pretty sure that just about 90% of us can throw the grandparents into the mix. What about people whose families didn't make it out of Germany, Russia or Poland among others. Because they were powerless.

ah, yes, the draft the 'equalizer'. Parents? I've already stated that mine were firmly implanted in the NSA. In-laws? How about two tours in Vietnam plus Air America. (It's not just a movie)

How about Sikhs, Hindis, Muslims? India? Nepal? China? Wait, what about Korea and Japan? Not enough? what about the Jews/Christians/Palistinians? Still not enough?

Hutus and Tutsis? Serbs and Croats?

Want to get really technical? Let's toss in the Hawaiians, the Puerto Ricans, the Cubans, the Phillipinos, the Indonesians, the Nicaraguans...

how about let's toss in the Cold War.

So when exactly is war a good thing, because I'd really like to know.

      Jenn

and in case I didn't make myself CRYSTAL clear: I will sleep well tonight, knowing that the world's best military force is defending me. and I'm lucky enough to have one of them actually with me. so, again, until you or your spouse has been ordered into a war zone...perhaps you should temper your positions and think of the 19 year-olds.

Saddam does not even KIND of equal Hitler. As I've stated many times before, if the legitimate reason for this war were 'stopping tyrants' then we'd also be doing so in Darfur, would have been in Sudan .... SO many places.

As for hystrionics / apology demanding, DC Jenn didn't ask for / demand one. She called Rapunzel on the very rude statement made. Either Sally or I first suggested an apology.

As for why something is offensive, suggesting that a person who has committed their adult life to the service of our country (and those of us who have been around for awhile - including Rapunzel - know that DC Jenn's husband has) suggesting that she try to get him a 'dishonorable' anything is just plain rude and inflamatory. If the true intent were to suggest he be a conscientious objector - that should have been what was written.

I had an epiphany this morning.

Yes, jloreine's husband has been in the military for a long time. And, yes, I have been out to get jloreine for just about as long.

Yes, I am Ann Coulter's doppleganger. In fact, better than that, I am the misshappen offspring of her union with the devil himself.

Yes, I should apologize - I may not know what I'm apologizing for or why, but that makes it all the clearer that that is the correct course of action. When in doubt, admit you are wrong.

Yes, when I asked her a question on a subject that she herself brought up I meant every last thing that anyone has assumed I alluded to, implied, or meant.

Yes, it is cowardly for me to allow others to have the last word. And, being the consummate coward I will here as well. You see, I have a house to close on, a move to organize, and a life to live. I realize it is cowardly to allow such trivial things to get in the way of posting on the internet. But, after all, it's what cowards do!

Now, I realized something last night and this morning that I had begun to think about months ago. And, I want to thank you all for helping that realization become so much clearer.

            So, be happy! You win!

            Goodbye and good luck!

As entitled as I feel Laker or I am to an opinion about this war, I will readily acquiesce that Jenn's opinion holds a LOT more weight because of her connection to it. It's like all these senators voting to send everybody else's kids off to war. Of COURSE it's a sacrifice they're willing to make - sad to them, but it's still not their kids/husbands/fathers, etc.

As for the "benefits" of this war... how can 2,500 dead soldiers - and TENS of THOUSANDS innocent Iraqi deaths - be justified when they outnumber those of a tyrant like Sadaam Hussein? Capturing him didn't put an end to the killing. It didn't put an end to Al Qaeda. It didn't slow the insurgency.

WWII was a TRUE liberation and a reaction, some may even say an overdue reaction, to the right enemy. There was a level of global consensus that this war never could have attained.

              What has happened to logic?

R - Pretending to be better than everybody else isn't the same thing as truly rising above. I was obviously being too general with my anaology... No, you didn't preface your insults by instructing Jenn not to be offended. Worse, you insulted her and then told her she shouldn't have such an emotional reaction. That's far worse, but at least you admit that's what you did. If you care to further this debate of semantics and mock me with your HYSTERICAL laughter, please, be my guest, but I won't participate any further. You aren't ready.

                Wow-

First, to Laker- I never said shut the F up to you, specifically. I can if you need me to- you chose to respond having all of the puffery of a person who hasn't served and won't serve and doesn't have a spouse who serves in the military. So, yes, I DO get to react differently.

Second- To Jenn- I honestly can't believe that you of all people would even begin to question why I might find that initial statement to be insulting. I can't believe I'm even answering the question for you.

The reason why it's insulting is numerous: 1) I find all war to be reprehensible, as I believe most reasonable people do. 2) There are times and places when there is no other recourse. 3) My husband is a military officer who at this point has served this country proudly for 14 years. Yes, we disagree with this current war. and yes, as I stated before, I will be INSANE if something happens to him while in Iraq. Why is that so objectionable? Why shouldn't I protest and scream and yell and question the administration? What about being a spouse to a military person precludes me from having opinions?

and to answer why I haven't been around, it's because I was proudly attending my husband's graduation from fellowship today. The one where the Vice-Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff spoke, where the Navy Band played and where, when the colors were presented I stood, put my hand on my heart and sang the National Anthem. and once again thanked my lucky stars that I can live in a country where someone can be publicly venomous and it doesn't make a bit of difference. and that is why I haven't even mentioned an apology.

and as I stated previously, thanks to all of you who have publicly and privately supported me. I appreciate the kind words and good thoughts.

                Isn't this country great?

                            Ann Coulter

As someone who was in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and a resident of New Jersey, Ann Coulter does have some points. I do not agree with how she expressed them (more than a bit over the top and certainly not representative of republicans), these women have never done so well before in their lives (all are multi millionaires thanks to those of us who donated very liberally to support them).

My sister lost her husband to cancer about 5 months before 9/11. He was 37 years old and left behind a 3 year old and a 7 year old. NO ONE in this country has stepped in to support her or her children. She lives on a very small income. No one supports me or the emotional distress I went through as I struggled off the 23rd floor of building 1, helping others as I went along. For those of us who made these women millionares, I have to ask them to shut the hell up because they have received far more than any other widow in the history of this country. My advice: Count your blessings.

In this country, in our courtrooms, we are never allowed to blame the victims of a rape attack. Why are we allowed to blame the government (which I might remind everyone, that during the time of Clinton, he had the opportunity to pick up that SOB bin laden)?

Maybe it is because they have received so much that they feel compelled to speak out. The very fact that they have been made millionaires and "targets" of so much aid and press puts them in the spotlight for this event.

Thanks for your perspective from the scene. I know that people can be ugly and maybe this is one of those times. I hope that isn't the case with these widows.

I hope you are recovering from your own trauma. It must have been horrible.
