Is it just me or does anyone think his death is a little too convenient? He had a lot of information on a lot of people. I wouldn't doubt he may have been "negotiating " for a lesser sentence. He was a very wealthy and powerful man. I'm sure he had physicals and stress tests annually. You don't just have a massive MI without triple vessel disease (usually), and that would have been picked up. I think it is all a little fishy.

I heard on the radio that b/c he never had the "chance" to appeal his conviction, it is now like the conviction never happened at all - legal system wise.
I just figured that Skilling was probably pretty jealous. Lay did look crappy over the last several months. I was wondering if maybe he'd done himself in rather than just an MI. Didn't seem like the "prison" type.

Wow, so would that mean his estate and family (I presume) would keep the money? I think it was around $40-50 million. eta: I just read that shareholders could still pursue civil cases but that the fine is a moot point.
Reading the story today, had to remind myself that despite what he has done (IMO), he still has a family dealing with losing him. I imagine it is mixed feelings for some of the former employees to not see him go to jail.
