To further educate myself I looked up evangelical in the dictionary and found:
1. Of, relating to, or in accordance with the Christian gospel, especially one of the four gospel books of the New Testament.
2. Evangelical Of, relating to, or being a Protestant church that founds its teaching on the gospel.
3. Evangelical Of, relating to, or being a Christian church believing in the sole authority and inerrancy of the Bible, in salvation only through regeneration, and in a spiritually transformed personal life.
4. Evangelical
a. Of or relating to the Lutheran churches in Germany and Switzerland.
b. Of or relating to all Protestant churches in Germany.
5. Of or relating to the group in the Church of England that stresses personal conversion and salvation by faith.
6. Characterized by ardent or crusading enthusiasm; zealous: an evangelical liberal.
Most of those definitions seem pretty tame. I have to admit to equating evangelical to "pushy proselytizer." The latter of which really bothers me, so I am sorry for my own confusion.
I personally do not like it when other people tell me what religion I ought to be, what my morality should include, and what my beliefs need to be in order to be a good person or a patriotic person. I consider myself patriotic and good but not religious. Hence, I tend to vote for people who defend freedoms a little more zealously.
Where is my candidate?
Pro-choice
Gay marriage advocate
Anti-war
Doesn't want to spend money on everything under the sun.
Cares about the people who need it!
Doesn't kiss the behind of the people with the bankroll.
So, ya'll, who should I vote for?
