  • Exploting 9/11

In the interest of full disclosure, this is from moveon.org, but I thought I'd post it here for anyone that is interested.

In a little over 48 hours, ABC is airing a five-hour docudrama on the 9/11 attacks. The movie was written and produced by a right-wing activist who fabricated key scenes to blame Democrats and defend Republicans.

It's so partisan that even Rush Limbaugh was surprised ABC decided to air it. And a FBI agent who was brought in to consult on the docudrama quit because, he said, "they were making things up."

Public outrage is mounting across the country, and ABC is now "mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether."

I read about this on Yahoo news a few days ago. They had interviews with government officials that were dramatized in the mini. Of course, the scripts that they were shown had nothing in them that resembled the actual events. I think Madeleine Albright commented on it and a few FBI folk. From what I remember, no one has actually seen the film. It's being withheld until airing. They just have tidbits from scripts.

Personally, I think all this 9/11 stuff coming out this week is sickening. One show, maybe. But all these releases? It seems like some kind of new marketing trick. It leaves a definite bad taste.

      Honestly,
I believe that nearly all of the crap...especially Nick Cage's movie is exploitative...As if it weren't dramatic enough....or that we didn't all watch it happen over and over again? This one really gets me. I hope all who are profiting enjoy the money they make off of this tragedy.

I am so disgusted by all the exploitation of 9/11. I think it's so unfair to the families who have to live with this tragedy. :|

nope - just went to ABC's website - it's airing 'without commerical interruption'. http://abc.go.com/

ITA (and have posted so before) - I think ALL of the movies, etc. about 9/11 are sickening. The idea of profiting from it - just wrong. I'm not AS upset about documentaries ... there is historical value to it. But I know it's also a fine line, and someone is always profiting.

I meant they weren't releasing it for review by anyone before it aired on the network. Are you saying you can see it on the website now?

I heard last week that pol types wanted to see it to review it but were denied access to the film.

oh - misunderstood. you can see a clip on abc now, but they're airing it as planned (tomorrow, i think). i thought you meant that they were not going to air it until everything had been ironed out. my bad!

Then what's all this "I haven't seen the film! I wasn't given access!" talk? Who was invited to the screening?

Not that I'm an expert on this back story or anything, but didn't the Clinton administration *try* to assasinate Osama and miss? I seem to remember that news story during the Clinton administration. Why would there have been an uproar about trying to do the same thing another time?

                    *sigh*

I don't honestly believe anything I see, hear or read anymore. It's all so twisted for political gain. All of it, from every angle and source. I hardly see the point. That's got to be the low point of my cynicism. That's why I hate all this red state/blue state crapola. It just makes it worse. You can't believe anything because everyone is just trying to win some "game" instead of actually lead the country.

I say we make up two new political parties, randomly assign all the pols, and have them meet and come up with platforms. Then, we can all figure out if we are aqua voters or sunshine yellow voters for a change.
