  • Those that stand for nothing...

I'm listening to (yet another) analysis now. The "expert" said that this was basically a victory of the center. ITA. At least for my little fiendish circle of democratic voters, the desire was to pull back left from going so far right for so long. I personally haven't seen the Republican leaders going more "liberal" lately. Maybe that's true, but I'm not conservative enough to notice. I have already stated that I think power corrupts over time, so it's no surprise to see the scandals coming from that side of the aisle these days. I went back and read the Contract with America the other night, and was struck by how many of the items had to do with government corruption instead of social agenda. Now, I think the same objections could be applied to many of the Republican leaders these days.

I'm with you about the media coverage though. Totally useless. Sound bytes and spin are killing us.

ITA with this! I TRIED really hard to do my research on the candidates but couldn't find anything reliable. I wish our state had a group that would pick apart the attack ads. Kevin (I think) posted that great site but they didn't have anything on there about the MN races. But I voted, though I don't feel it was a totally educated vote.

Can we talk about voting for judges?

What do you guys do? I swear there were 4 pages of people I knew NOTHING about on the ballot. It was totally random. I'm so ashamed.

Someone told me later that they just don't vote for them at all. I never thought of that.

Here the League of Women Voters puts out a great non-partisan summary. Apparently, I see no need to read about the judges.

I rarely vote for the judges, either because I totally disagree with the premise of electing a judiciary. I can't imagine how you can be focusing on the cases before you when you're thinking of the fund-raiser that starts in 15 minutes.

I don't vote for them, unless I know of something particularly heinous (think of that TX guy we had a thread about recently). There was one in Cleveland long ago that I had a particular opinion on - but other than that I just leave it blank.

I also feel that Bush is quite conservative - especially for someone who is the president of an entire - quite divided - country and was elected w/razor thin margins (if that).

            What Jenn said.

            Judges should be appointed. Period.
