Crystal, I knew I remembered hearing some of that I just didn't remember from where!

The tone of the article is a turn-off.

I wonder why DH's program didn't do any seminars/lectures on addiction. Or may be they did it for residents only. Plus he tends to sleep in on the days of morning lectures. I also haven't heard anything happening in his program directly.

I'll never froget , once in college a "friend" invited me to her home for the weekend. She always bad mouthed her mom. Her mom was a nurse married to a an OB. When we arrived she wanted to introduce me to her mom, she knocked on the door to the master suite and was told to leave her (mom) alone, "I am doing my nails." The girl said "my mom goes to the the salons and spas for everything but manicures and pedicures"... when she's gone I'll show you why. After her mom left that evening, the girl showed me a box hidden w/ viles & siringes of narcotics...turns out NOBODY can bother mommy when she's doing her nails because they will see that she shoots up under them... apparently she did her own nails to hide this!

I assumed they were fake nails, because I would think that any real nail tissue would come off over time...She had the sterotypical appearance of a Stepford /Dawkter's Wife

I don't exactly see the "give the doctor a break" and s/he is getting picked on because of their doctor status.

Statistically, if you are a young, lower-income, non college educated black man and you were caught stealing and using narcotics, you would be going to PRISON for a long time. There are also other professions that report employee drug users to the police.

A rehab program and a newspaper article is getting off easy . . .

I agree 100%. This guy should be prosecuted just like the airline pilots who get caught being drunk. Who knows how much pain/injury/death this guy caused while being drugged up in the OR.

I never said give them a break - it just seems that there is a "doctors are bad" article every other month, other professions with customers lives in their hands aren't written about badly that regularly.

I know that dh's program had a low-tolerance for drug abuse- you were sent to rehab, then reevaluated, and if determined by the panel that you were "unfit" then you were asked to leave. That doesn't sound like getting off easy to me. If memory serves me right with the attendings- they were reported to the state board, and then sent to rehab.
