  • How soon to look for a new job?

We'll be moving in June/July and I want to keep working and hopefully to have something lined up before we move. When should I start to actively look aka send out resumes? Is it too early to do that now? I won't be able to start until at least July/August. I can take some sick/personal days at work now to go down there to interview if necessary. I don't want to commute too far and finding something before we move will enable us to get an apt half way to both jobs.

2 Months is usually plenty of time. Any earlier and job reqs for those start times won't be out yet. Even that is pretty far ahead for most jobs.

I'm in finance but only want to stick to few very specific industries/companies, so wasn't sure if I want to use a recruiter. I only want to keep working in finance for another year or two while deciding what it is I ultimately want to do. I also thought it's a bit too early to start looking now. I'll wait until April/May.

Yes, I agree it depends on the area and the job. When we moved here we found out in January, I didn't even get nibbles on my resume but the week we moved into town I got three phone calls for interviews and had a job within a week (of course its the wrong job, but thats another thread). I guess no one wanted to talk to me until I was actually here.
