  • New job

So I am leaving my current job teaching at a private high school in suburban Chicago. I am either looking for a public high school (math) teaching job or for another job in a different field.

The job prospects for places close (with-in 25 miles) to the city are pretty slim for teachers...there is fierce competition and you almost always need to know someone.

My question therefore is: what types of other jobs should I look into given
    1) I've only ever taught
    2) It must be full-time (Hubby is MS2 - so no insurance otherwise)
    3) I need to make at least $45k
    4) I need to be close to the city

My ideal, ideal, ideal job would be one where I could work from home...but I know that is far-fetched!

Any help, advice, etc. would be appreciated!

P.S. Trying to convince him that we should just start trying for kids and I'll stay at home has not worked so well...I don't blame him - I'm just frustrated in my current job :banghead:

    Re: New job

If you can get some contacts in the community, do math tutoring! You can charge $50-$75/hr, and schedule sessions at your house according to your schedule.
It worked for me for awhile, but it gets old pretty quickly.
Try to get referrals from the schools, and then word of mouth takes care of the rest.
eta - I just read the insurance requirement....can you buy through the school or the AMA?

You could look into curriculum design, or writing textbooks- you could do that from home.
