  • Back to School!

    Thankfully, no.

I occasionally bat around the idea of a PhD but I'm getting lazy in my old age.

If I were to do something it would definitely be in Public Health or some kind of Healthcare Administration. Probably more Public Health.

Your program sounds fun though! There's nothing wrong with changing course mid-stream. My neighbor graduated w/ her BA in English and decided almost immediately to go back and get her nursing degree. Sometimes it helps just knowing what you DON'T want to do!

    Re: Back to School!

ME My seven year hiatus is over! Yahoo!!! I'm taking 2 classes, DD is in preschool at that time, and DS is in 1st grade. Though I'm a bit clueless on how I'm going to fashion my weeks. I work pt at home when DD is sleeping, soooo my free time is small. But I'm so thrilled to be chipping away at my degree, even if quite slow. It's all good, and I"m excited Honestly, I feel so blessed to be able to go to school, that I have a total new attitude since I had to stop my academics for DH's since we had our son unplanned. I'm thrilled to be a slave to homework and research papers

My degree is special ed, though I'm wavering between special ed K-12 or early intervention, both are individual degrees, thank God I have time to chew on this and figure out what exactly I want to do.

Though, I have a little mommy guilt, as DD is getting really fun and started to get into playing games. Sigh, there never is a "good time" when you get past 18, is there? But she is a very social girl, and when we were out of town for the summer, she begged for her friends constantly. So, I know she will like it, (she starts preschool next week), and now "gets it" that big brother is at school, and is excited to go to "her" school. I'm thinking next year, I don't want her in 5 days, but want to see if there is a 4 yr old class that is just 3 days. Sigh, my baby is growing up.

          Re: Back to School!

I don't mean to sound like I am seeking intellectual stagnancy, but honestly: never, ever, ever again. I am done. I never want to incur another dime of school debt or take another test. My husband sent me the best card with a bouquet of flowers on the day I passed the bar: "Congrats on never having to take another test ever again." And he's helped me with that: he ranked highest residency programs in jurisdictions where I could waive into the bar, so I wouldn't even have to take that test again!

But good luck to all those starting up again this fall! Hope it's a great experience for you! Don't let me sour you--it's just me. Nine years out of school and I am still tired from that studying!!

I am starting my second semester of classes next week towards my masters in higher ed. I will be taking classes and working 20 hrs/wk. Of course, classes and work are about 100 miles apart. I am lucky that my DM lives near my grad school and I will be crashing there two nights/week.

Good luck to those of you who are starting (or have already started) their classes this week!

                    World Religion....ooooh. Very interesting!

I'm taking Human Anatomy with a cadaver lab (ugh) and Medical terminology. So far, I find myself drowning in work! I have no idea how I'm going to keep up, but...I sure am having fun. The really neat twist to it is that our lab is...very unusual. We are basically in groups of 4. This week, we started with bones and our professor pretty much set out different groups of bones on each lab table. We had the vertebrae. He gave us a massive list of terms for the skeletal system, had us pull out our atlases and said "be able to identify every single one of these terms on the model. Good luck." And. He left the lab. So we had a 2-D book and 3-D models and we were all stuck trying to figure out if the groove, curve or whatever that we were looking at was what we were trying to identify. The lady that I got partnered with coincidentally lives a mile from my house AND she has 4 boys AND her son is in the 4th grade in the classroom adjacent to Alex! LOL

Needless to say, we hit it off.

We didn't get any introduction at all into the skeletal system, bones..no slides to look at...nothing. Our prof is an evolutionary morphologist who is teaching all of this from the prospective of the history of the study of anatomy and the evolution of certain structures.

It'll be reallly interesting. I got on my computer to work on an outline of the skeletal system and try to put 2 +2 together for myself. Instead, I've spent 45 minutes on here.

Someone tell me to quit procrastinating and get back to work!

I went back to school this year, after taking a year hiatus in between the BA and my MA. I'm condensing 2 yrs. into 1 yr. (eeek) but I'm thinking that it will all be okay.

                      After this... Law School?

                      Eh.
