Advice?

So today I found out that my start date has been moved to March of 2010!

What am I going to do with 8 months? Find temp work? I am kind of relieved to be able to spend more time with hubby during his intern year but I'm more just confused? What if they rescind this offer completely?

I'm actually floored and at the same time I was half expecting this. *sigh*

Wow, bummer! I'd definitely look for some temp work --- maybe even something temp to hire as you are concerned that this position may evaporate.

I don't want to freak you out but this happened to my sister, first they pushed it back and then they rescinded it. If I were you I would not only look for temp work but also look at other jobs, if you find something that fits better - take it. There is no reason to sit and wait for a job that might not be there when the time comes.

Temping is a definitely a good starting point. I don't know where you're located, but around here there are specific legal temping firms. It gives you good experience and something to do.

What a bummer, I’m so sorry. I’d look into legal temping and also start seriously looking for another job. The market’s too tight right now to play the waiting game.

ETA: I’m not sure whether you have to be licensed or not to do legal temp work. Even so, you’ll be plenty busy in June and July with studying and you’ll probably get your results in Sept or Oct. So long as you can swing it financially, a short break after the bar exam wouldn’t be a horrible thing, IMHO.

That's exactly what I'm thinking is a big possibility! From the conversation I had and the way that the market is looking at this point.

Where would I find legal temp placement agencies? What are some agencies that I should be looking at?

I will be taking the bar this summer, so yea I don't have to find anything right away.

What other resources should I be looking at if anyone knows/ has experience with trying to find some legal employment?

That totally stinks! I would definitely temp and look for another job - if you get another job you can "test it out" and either keep it or leave it come March. For now try not to think about it - just focus on your bar exam and relax. There will be plenty of time post-bar to look for a job (especially since it takes two months to get your bar results!) Don't worry I am sure it will work out! Good luck!
