  • Instant seniority!

I'm just starting in on week 5 of my new job, and another new hire for my section started today! That was a nicely short-lived perch at the very bottom of the totem pole.

I can't believe it's already been five weeks. How's it going? Are you able work on things you had hoped to?

I really like it so far. I've gotten some diverse and interesting research requests, so I'm getting to bone up on really random stuff. And I've officially been assigned my committee - so ask me again how things are going in about a month when the legislative session starts. That's when things will get crazy!

(The new person also saved me from getting stuck with a committee that I really didn't want, which is excellent.)

Congrats on not being the low man too long! I know what that's like...my last job change put me at the bottom of the seniority pole for over a year. Ugh. Stunk because I had no choice of call (sign up based on seniority) days for a whole year. I was basically assigned days for call and as you can imagine they ended up being holidays, weekends, etc. Yucko. Then a new person was hired and i had a choice (albeit minimal) for about 2 months then they got rid of the sign up for call system entirely. No justice!

Thanks for asking! The legislative session started yesterday - it's amazing how much more energy there is in the capitol now. I really get down to business in the next couple weeks (this week is mostly pomp and circumstance), so for now I just get to enjoy the show. It's fun.
