  • relieved and excited

I have been meaning to post this for a few weeks, but I keep forgetting....

This year, I have been volunteering at the older boys' school once a week, on Friday mornings when Nathan is at preschool. I do copying and some cutting out for the 4K teacher, and count my blessings the whole time that I never taught little kids who need constant visual stimulation!

Anyway, one Friday a few weeks ago I showed up, only to find out that the 4K classes had gone on a field trip. I was turning around to leave when the secretary asked if I could sub for about an hour and a half, since they were in a bind. I said sure, and ended up teaching fourth graders for part of the morning......and LOVED it!

Whenever I have thought about going back to work and teaching music, I have not felt too excited about it, because it requires a lot of extra-curricular time (at least my old job did) that would be hard for me now, with kids of my own. I didn't know if I would like teaching "normal" subjects, though, so I was kind of up in the air about what I wanted to do when Nathan is in school full time.

After my subbing experience the other day, I feel more confident that I am a teacher, and I will be able to teach any subject (provided I know something about it ) and enjoy it. I feel like I have a lot more options and hope to be able to teach at a school where my kids are.....probably I will sub for the first year or two so that the principals can get to know me, and so I can get my certification up to date before applying for a permanent job.

I am just excited to have a sense of direction about the whole thing, even though it will still be a while before I put my plan into action. I can't say that I am dying to go back to work full-time, but I think it will be good for us financially if I can work for 5 or 6 years after DH gets out of the military.

    Sally,
That is great! Those "chance" moments when we get insight or direction into what we want are such blessings!

That's awesome. Just having something that you want to do and that you connect with is the majority of the battle when it comes to working for pay, I think. I love hearing about those moments of connection (or reconnection).

That's great Sally! Especially since you felt so at ease teaching having absolutely no warning that you were going to do it!

          Go Sally Go!!!

Teaching is one of those fields that requires the gene, not just the desire and it sounds like you've got it! Teachers are an undervalued resource and we always need more, so whenever you're ready, the world will be ready for you!

Sally, that is great - I agree with the sentiment that just finding something you love is huge...wish I could do that!

              Good luck!

                Sally,

Good for you! Doesn't it feel great to have an action plan?

This is great news. How does Travis feel about it?
