make sure you have input on the match rank list. generally speaking--at least from my experience, most med students put prestige over location. my wife also did the samething. in my opinion, it's a bad idea. residency is long hard road. it's a lot harder than med school-- because the obligation is more--the hours less flexible and stress are more.

I started working on a transfer at work about 2 months before the start of Fellowship. It worked out and there was a opening. They saved it for me all that time until I arrived. Once we got a address I started looking casually. After I transferred and realized it was a hell hole job, I started applying agressivly the second week we were here. I found a new job very quickly.
