This is a very depressing thread. I encouraged DH to rank based on prestige and actually wanted to leave where we were and move somewhere new. However, the transition was way harder than I'd imagined and after a year of hard/discouraging freelancing I ended up just getting lucky with jobs (I guess my situation is a bit of an exception because I don't expect or even want a full time job right now. As a musician I actually prefer having 4-6 part time jobs so that I have time to perform and adjust schedule when tours come up). Despite this, I do expect I'll encourage him to rank based on program prestige once fellowship comes around. However after that if I'm ready to get a doctorate homeboy better be on board.
