So it was a neutral result. The resignation of the dept director was only announced a week ago tomorrow. The head of my office is *soooo overwhelmed* right now that she hasn't come up with a plan for what the transition from the previous director to the next director would look like. Yes, there is sarcasm there - she gets paid the big bucks to figure this crap out. I don't care to live on a precipice when it comes to stuff like this.
So I went in to the head's office and said I am interested in being interim if and when you need one, because I want to see what being director is like. She told me she appreciated my initiative to ask and that it wouldn't go unnoticed. We had a good but short conversation.
Then we went into a dept meeting and she talked about hiring a temp or bringing in one of our volunteers for a short period of time. :face palm:
She doesn't totally get how we function as a department and she will know in about a week how badly she needs me. The soon-to-be leaving dept director thought I kicked ass in our dept mtg, so that was good news.
Every day has been a roller coaster since the announcement, hence my why my posts and work days are up, down and circuitous.

Update: there will be no interim director, only me killing myself to prove I can be the department director when the time comes. And who knows when that time will be because the head has no game plan 3 weeks later. Not a happy camper.
