  • "Business Casual"

I've got a grad school open house thing next Friday, and the dress is business casual. I've found varying definitions of business casual online. What does this even mean?!? Do I play it safe and wear a dress? What kind of shoes? DH is going with me...khakis and a polo okay for him?

Ugh. I hate this crap. And I am nowhere near goal yet, even though I'm looking considerably better. Still going to have to drag out the spanx though. Boo.

Khakis and a polo are fine, I think, and so is a dress. I see business casual as tailored pants or dresses, blouses, jackets that aren't a suit, cardigans, etc. No jeans or t-shirts, shoes that you can wear with tailored pants or dresses - leather flats, loafers, pumps, etc. It's a pretty fuzzy area so there's a lot you can do. Just look polished and somewhere in between business suit and jeans.

Thanks, I'll go with the dress. It's a very conservative school where the students aren't allowed to wear jeans to class anyway, so erring on the side of more business than casual is a good idea.

A dress is perfect. For men I think khakis and a shirt, even short sleeved. No tie.
