  • New job!

After many months of job searching (I left my last job 6 months ago ), I finally got an offer at a great company. I am soooo relieved-- all the rejections were really getting me down. I'm starting in a week and I'm a little nervous about all the new-ness, but it seemed like a great group of people.

On a related note, how do you build a business wardrobe without spending your entire paycheck (and without looking frumpy)? I found a few blazers on sale that I can match with the pants I already own, but I probably need a few actual suits, right?

You could check out the clearance racks right now at the dept stores. Also, Target has decent basic stuff, and I've found deals at the Goodwill in the chichi part of town.

          Congratulations, Esther! That's great news!!

Do you have to wear a suit every day? If you only have to wear it every once in a while or a couple times a week, then you can just buy one suit and a few different blouses and accessories. The different tops/accessories will make it look like a completely different suit.

Congratulations Esther! As for wardrobe, I highly recommend a black suit with pants and a jacket. you will be amazed at home many ways you can wear these three pieces.

Thanks everyone! It does feel great.

Thanks for the wardrobe suggestions, too. I had not considered Ebay-- I'll definitely take a look.

                          Congratulations!

For the wardrobe - have you looked at consignment shops near "ritzy" neighboorhoods? I've found great stuff with the origional tags still on them!

Yeah, I'm planning to do some thrift/consignment shopping this weekend. I've found good stuff that way in the past.

Is it ok to mix colors, e.g. wear a black suit jacket with gray pants?

I'm not great at this sort of thing and I think it just depends on how it looks. It seems like more tailored suit pieces look like they are meant to go with a matching piece but a little looser tailoring allows for mixing. I would wear black dress pants with different things -- my favorites were a black/white glen plaid jacket or blush short sleeve suit top. And most of the time black dress pants with a silk sweater or button up shirt. Come to think of it, I had a lot of black pants!
I hope you find some great stuff this weekend.
