It seems like that for the first time in a while, things have just all come together. I was not only able to get 2 art classes that I am totally excited about, but was able to land a fairly well paying job (by nursing standards, anyway) that will allow me to work 35 hours per week(and will work around my class schedule), but will also allow me to receive full-time benefits. We will be paying less that $100/month for health insurance, whereas we've been paying closer to $250 for the last 6 years. YAHOO!

I got the official job offer yesterday- I start on Septmber 10, which gives me another couple of weeks off to finish getting the house in order and get into the groove of my classes.

I must be doing the right thing- nothing is EVER this easy for me!

            My classes are:

Intro to Black and White Photography-- this is probably the art form that I love the most. We will be developing all of our own film. We get to do a "portfolio" with some sort of theme to it. My problem isn't coming up with ideas- it is narrowing them down to make them do-able! I'm thinking old barns, my friend's beautiful children, old churches, dogs....

Intro to Sculpture- this one should be interesting. Our first assignment (with no actual due date except "the end of the semester") is to show an example of furniture as sculpture that makes a statement about the human condition

            Huh?

He wants us to design our own sculture using furniture as the basis. It isn't supposed to be a functional piece once it is completed. I'm thinking-- a female (representing a female medical spouse ) balancing all the demands of her life-- cleaning, cooking, kids, pets, social calendar... It'll be a table with the female as the "legs" and all the things that are being balanced as kind of "decoration" on the table. The class (and professor) seemed to like it when I presented it for critique last night

Ever walked into a situation where you felt completely understood? That's how I'm feeling right now-- "you mean I can do something with the ideas in my head and no one will look at me like I'm crazy?!" "It's OK to be creative here?!"

            Wow.

The job is working for the Visitng Nurses Association--- home health. Really, if I'm going to do nursing, it's not a bad place to be- the people are functional and coherent for the most part, it isn't 12 hours on my feet, the pay is pretty good, and there's a lot of flexibility inthe scheduling. I like being able to establish a relationship with my patients and this will allow me to do that. I'll have my own patient load that I am responsibile for, which gives me that familiarity factor that I crave so much. Should work out well.

I still can't believe how well this has all come together!

              Wendy,

How Wonderful for you! It sounds like your classes are going to be a lot of fun....and...I can't wait to see this sculpture of yours!!!!! You'll have to take a photo at the end of the semester so that we can display it on the site!!!!

Isn't it wonderful to find yourself in a place where you finally know that you belong? I'm so happy for you!

The job sounds like it will be less boring and stressful than your other one.....things really are working out for you!

              Congratulations!
