  • Update: My Job Search

    Hi Everyone!

I want to thank everyone here for your support. I appreciate all of your help with my questions as it relates to my job hunt. I just wanted to give everyone an update. I am getting really close to landing the advertising gig at one of the largest Hispanic networks in the country. I had my first interview this week and it went really well. Next thing I have to do is do a presentation on the Hispanic market and their consumer buying power. Everyone there seems really nice and no, I don't have to speak Spanish! Many of the Account Executives there do speak Spanish and they are going after mostly Spanish establishments. However, their top sales rep is going after the American corporate businesses and she's got too much on her plate. So, they need someone to do the same. I think it'll be really fun. I know I don't want to go back into telecom (I used to work in sales for Sprint). AT&T and Quest Communications have been calling me like crazy over the past couple of months! I just got another call from AT&T today! These recruiters don't know when to stop!

Anyways, just thought I'd give everyone here an update. I haven't posted that much b/c I've had this on my mind...

    Have a great week!

Thanks for the support, everyone! My presentation will be on Monday. The sales manager sent me an e-mail yesterday and told me not to worry about it. Haha! I am very excited about this opportunity! I want to stay as far as I can from the corporate scene right now. I met w/my co-worker from Sprint this week and she told me they are dealing with the same bulls**t (filling out a million sales reports, going to endless meetings, orders not being processed correctly, tracking our own orders, doing our own commissions) as when I left. Every time we were asked to do something from our sales manager it was because "corporate" said so and that was that. I would always think to myself, "Well, if corporate asked you to jump off a cliff would you?"

You can't imagine all of the bulls**t I went through! I had no time to do my job, sell! It's crazy b/c nobody cared in that setting! My co-worker was supposed to get a commission check for last month, but because they were not processed correctly by the business order fulfillment department her orders were cancelled. This means that her orders never shipped, her customers never received their phones, and she was not going to get a commission check! She was so mad b/c all the manager could do was tell her it would have to roll-over for this month. Plus, she heard from someone in the business order fulfillment department that department would no longer exist b/c they were going over to customer service due to all of the customer service complaints they got. Crazy!

When I heard from AT&T this week, I asked myself "do I really want to go through this corporate bulls**t again?" I could go on and on about my stories, but I won't b/c it would take alot of space!

I am very glad to be out of the corporate environment and will let you know how things go next week! Sorry this is so long...I had to vent...

            Have a great weekend!
