  • How did you make your career choice?

Was it based on passion or practicality?

I studied what I felt passionate about and chose it as a career.

    Kris-

We need a none of the above! I was a social work major but never dreamed of working with developmentally disabled adults until my senior year internship. I had always planned on working with senior citizens. And why was I a social work major? Well, because it had the fewest math requirements. Luckily it has all worked out.

I tried to change it and I can't ..I'm sorry!

It's interesting how our careers take shape. I recently read a statistic that somewhere near 80% of college grads DONT work in the field that they got their degree in. That seems awfully high to me!

        Hmmm-

I'm thinking of all of the people I know and pretty much only the medical ones who majored in biology are working in their chosen fields!

I actually get asked this a lot when I tell people that nursing isn't the love of my life.
Basically, I thought I was going to marry this guys that was going to move me around a lot, so I better have a careerthat could accomodate that. I did marry someone that moves me around a lot, just not the one I thought I was going to marry at the time I decided to go into nursing. Honestly, it has served us well. We wouldn't have met had I not been working as a nursing student and we certainly would've had a lot harder time making it financially had I not been working as a nurse. Not that nursing pays very well, but it is easy to find a job, so we haven't had any terrible times of struggling waiting for me to find a job in my field.
I will definitely be glad to get out of it, though.
