DW is studying for this exam this month. Is there really a reason to to well on this exam, or just pass it? I would like more free time and less study time...

Ha ha ha ha, you're joking right. That is one downfall of my DH's program this test is the most IMPORTANT test they take. My DH is a 2nd year, he doesn't actually take it until 4th year, but he's taking it this weekend for "assessment". Everyone 2nd year-4th year takes it EVERY year. For the last, I don't even know how many years, Mayo's residents have had the best scores in the country or very close to it. They send them to a week long review class in Chicago, they put them on "easy" rotations or off of rotations completely for the ENTIRE quarter so that they can study. I wish it was only bring a #2 pencil here. I think I'll be taking a lot of vacations with the kids the quarter he takes it for credit.
ETA: Never mind these are boards they're testing for, not Step III. I think DH barely studied for Step III. I think I need a vacation!Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

You're kidding, Cheri! Yikes. I would think the longer you wait to take it, the harder it is because of the questions related to things not done since intern year or med school.
I don't think DH studied much, either, and he did fine. Might matter for a fellowship? Now we just get the mock boards stress.
