  • Good book about first time home buying?

I wanted to check some books out from the library about home buying. I have stuff given to me from lenders, real estate agents and such, but want something that is non associated to get a more rounded perspective about buying a home. I feel like a total idiot about the whole thing. And if all goes well we will be looking asap after Match Day and put a contract on our first place

Here are a couple of websites that have home-buying sections and information:
    http://www.motleyfool.com
    http://www.smartmoney.com
    http://www.kiplinger.com

I referred to those and found them helpful.

Has anyone read/looked through Home Buying for Dummies and Mortgages for Dummies? I'm afraid we'll need to start from the very beginning.

We used Mortgages for Dummies and found it very useful, we also knew absolutely nothing about the home-buying process. I imagine Home Buying for Dummies would be equally helpful.

            I have three.

Home Buying for Dummies seems comprehenssive. I find all the document examples helpful but keep in mind that we have not actually bought yet.

Suzanne's Whang's (HGTVs House Hunter) "Happy Home Buying" is an easier read than the Dummies book but not as comprehenssive.

Alfred & Emily's Glossbrener "Smart Guide to Buying a Home" ... I think it is good but frankly made me a little paranoid. (I posted about it a few weeks ago) However it does bring up some good points.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

We used Home Buying for Dummies many years ago when we were new to the process, and thought it was helpful. Really, the most helpful thing for us has been a good buyer's agent, especially if we are new to the area where we are buying.
