  • how to sell stuff on ebay and make a profit

I have picked up a few things at the thrift store and put them on ebay to make some extra money. And I havent made extra money at all.

One thing was a beautiful wool women's 3pc suit by land's end- it sold for 4.99, and I charged 7.99 to ship, and the actual shipping cost was 11.00. Dont get me started on the rip off post office. So I lost money and it was a really great suit, someone lucked out.

Has anyone else tried this? Are there any items that sell well that I could be on the lookout for? Any other sales tips?

Things I've learned over the years:

Before you list it, package it and weigh it and that'll determine your shipping fees- and if the item will fit, the flat rate boxes are the greatest things ever invented.

Don't be afraid to list a minimum price or do a "Buy it Now" for a price that you think is fair.

Lots of clothes move more quickly than single items.

When you list it, make sure you're listing in the right categories.

I just went through a similar experience on ebay. For some reason worn/used stuff went much better than brand new (NWT) items. I have no idea why. I also discovered that a pair of shoes or one clothing item (shirt/skirt etc.) will usually ship for a little under $7, so I charge that as a flat shipping rate. I have made as much as I hoped but figured that $5 is still better than moving a pair of shoes I'll never wear again.
