  • Airline %$^&* tickets

We have to buy tickets to see family over Christmas and they are going to be big bucks so I am trying to get the cheapest ones I can. I have been checking on a daily basis- one day they are $500, the next $575, the next day they are $700, the next they are down to $550. I seriously do not know when to buy them. My mom already bought hers a month ago and they changed the flight times on her and screwed up her whole travel plans. I check kayak.com religiously but am too paralyzed to buy them bc of the ping ponging prices. Just so annoying!

Between which cities are you flying?

My dh and I plan to fly during the first week in January, and ticket prices are so high! Non-stop b/n Chicago and Seattle is over $400. I'm holding off, but also looking into yapta.com. My mom suggested the site -- has anyone here used it?

I will check it right now. We are headed to the Bahamas, and are trying to return a different date from DH which makes searching for tickets even more maddening.

you can also try looking through the various search engines via ebates. you don't get any lower prices b/c of ebates, but you do get a percentage back (ebates sends you a check). so if you were going to end up booking via one of those sites (expedia, hotwire, priceline - there are more), it's a way to save a little extra $$. Especially when the tickets will be so pricey.

Southwest is having a $99 sale right now through the 29th.

I feel your pain....I've been checking on Christmas fares since June and prices have only gone up since then.

Try http://www.cfares.com. They were featured in last month's Money Magazine and usually have lower fares than other websites.

I just booked them. I have vowed not to check the prices again bc if I find out they are less I will be very unhappy. I had to call orbitz and book them over the phone. I had to do a separate itinerary for DH since he is coming back early, and every time I searched, it would never give me the same itinerary as him for the outbound flight.

I read once that if you buy your tickets directly from the airline, they will refund you the difference if they prices go down.
