  • Housing?

Ok, my husband will be attending AUC this Fall. We have had to spend all the money we had saved on unexpected costs. I am going to be following him down there with our 1 yr old in October. We keep trying to find housing that won't require the first, last, and deposit. All that we can find is The Summit Resort. I was just wondering is this a decent place to stay for the first semester? We are hoping to get a feel for the island and live somewhere else after the first semester.

First semester is the most costly semester due to all the moving and set up expenses. Everyone goes through that growing pain on the island. I also think Summit would be a very good place to rent for just one semester until you find the right place for you... plus you can save up a little for the deposits next semester at a new rental. All rentals near the school charge first month, last month, and a deposit equal to a month's rent. Don't be put off by landlords only taking chash for these transactions. Since you’re not in the US rarely will a landlord take an American check. Few will take a credit/debit card. Even if they do take a credit/debit card they will ask you to pay an extra 3% to cover the costs of taking payment through a credit card company.

Have you contacted the AUC Spouses Organization? I'm more than happy to give you all the advice I have, but it's been 2.5 yrs since I've lived on the island. The AUC S.O. will assign you a sponsor. It's a volunteer system were a current medical spouse (on island) will be in contact via email to answer all the questions you have. Some sponsors will meet you at the airport and show you around the island after you arrive, if you’re up for that.

      Here is your contact info:
to get hooked up with a sponsor via email: AUCSpousesOrg@gmail.com
