Heidi posted to this blog in another thread and I've been doing a lot of reading on it in the last day. There is a TON of information here that would be useful to all of us in all stages of training.

I'm glad you posted this. I've been following his blog for a while. I think I came across his link on the Bogleheads website. That's also full of great information (the wiki as well as the forum), and they have a great book out: The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing.

Somebody in our program recommended it as a good resource, so I followed if for a while, but but I got sick of the vilification of financial advisers, so stopped following. It does have some really great info though.

I can see how that would happen, although I believe he's not against fee-only advisers. I worked in the industry for a little while, and I think he makes some really good points. I personally like that constant reminder because it's not an opinion you hear very often, especially among physicians who seem to have a "guy" for everything. There's obviously something to be said for expert advice, but did you know that you don't even need a college degree to become a financial adviser? Go for the professional advice, but be sure to educate yourself as well.

I can't stop reading this website! Love, love, love it. I have been contemplating to switching all of our stuff to NFP TIAA CREFF for a long time, now I have the impetus to do it. (Although I will check out Vanguard as well!)

Go to this site right now! Do it!

I am so happy to find this as well!
It's also lighting a fire under my butt to get more organized and re-look at our finances now that we're back to one house payment.

Thank you for kicking me in the butt regarding finances. All of your posts have totally inspired me. I just updated Mint.com (which I still love) including our budget for this house, and Dh's current income. I feel so much more pulled together (at least in this regard). We are actually in a really good place, but have nothing yet put aside for college funds for the kids. I will not have my kids in the same position DH was in, so we will be paying for their schooling. It is crazy what college calculators say to put away for each child, and we're really not in a place where we can do it to the level they suggest (because we're catching up our retirement accounts - thank you training), but we are starting to put away something. And, this blog is freaking awesome. It's just given me some ideas of what more we can and should be doing. It also reminded me that, while in Illinois the 529s did very little as a tax break, now that we're back in Ohio, they're pretty okay. Anyway, I'm definitely feeling happy that someone got me going!

We didn't know about "Stealth IRAs" until reading this blog. I sent the link to my dh, and he's been reading it like a madman! Thanks, C!

I love it too but I can't take credit. Heidi posted it somewhere first.

Ok - thank you Heidi! My children thank you to, as now they will most likely have college funds.
