In Delaware county (and I think the rest of the Cbus area), foreclosures are listed with price on the Sheriff's website for the appropriate county.

Did you try googling the address? Sometimes interesting things pop up (like hopefully the foreclosure sale price).

Always, always, ALWAYS google the hell out of everything and everyone when buying a house. You wouldn't believe the shit we uncovered when we bought our current house.

Also, most counties have their sales and tax info online. You can usually look it up on the auditor's or treasurer's website.

One of the previous owners has a significant online presence between being a former collegiate and (low-level) professional athlete, having wealthy local business-owning parents, and an appeal with the state Supreme Court for his drug convictions. My PSA for the day: Don't appeal go to the state Supreme Court if you want to keep something private.

Also discovered that the seller's realtor had some pretty significant connections to fraudulent dealings. I'm kinda not sure how they even still have a license.

This. And wildly is putting it mildly. The only way to tell real worth is through the comps. Let me know an address and I can do research for you (the Percs of being licensed in OH

I've learned in my relatively short tenure in real estate that one thing is for sure.., agents are shady as hell.

Zillow is odd - our house is on there with REALLY old pictures and while they have our sale listed its only listed at the list price, not what we actually paid for it. The zestimate is pretty close to what it just appraised for though.

The "zestimate" is often wildly inaccurate, yes, but generally the previous sale prices, when it has them, are right (they're just pulled from public records, after all).

The zestimate for our house is $150,000 lower than what it was just appraised for, and the square footage is listed at 2,500, instead of the 5,000 it really is. So weird.

You can go into Zillow and correct things. I did that on our house before listing it for sale. For example, we added a storm shelter, so I wanted it to show on searches. You have to create an account and claim your house first.

I've gone in and corrected inaccuracies on zillow. It does take a few weeks for things to get updated in their system, but it's worth it to go in there and make changes.
